For the 2021 finals of the League of Legends and Valorant esports competitions, held in Mexico, Riot Games entrusted PopUp Media with the production of two large-scale extended reality (XR) events — all within the constraints of pandemic-related health restrictions. The goal: to push the boundaries of live virtual productions, without an audience and with a reduced technical crew.
To make this possible, PopUp Media — a Riot Games partner since 2017 — deployed a complete technological setup: Epic Games’ Unreal Engine, Zero Density for powering 11 multi-resolution LED walls and augmented reality elements, EZtrack® for centralized camera and object tracking, and Vizrt for real-time graphics. The entire system was integrated into a streamlined workflow designed for live production.
Within this highly technical setup, Aski-da Creative handled the creation of the graphic scenes, programming, and on-site setup, helping deliver a smooth and immersive experience for viewers around the world.
